Community Spiritual
Practices
We are now a little over halfway through the season of Lent. How are your seasonal spiritual practices going? The journey
through Lent invites us to take stock and make some changes if need be. Perhaps it is a time to turn away from some things, or turn toward other things, according to what is pulling on your heart.
Personally, I have returned to a couple of spiritual practices over the last few weeks that have helped me reconnect in a variety of ways with self, others, and the natural world outside our doors. Of course, all of that enables me to reconnect with all that is sacred.
One of the readings for this Sunday describes the importance of community celebration and ritual. It is a way of reminding the community of their identity, their beliefs, and their relationship to one another. That got me thinking about our own faith community and family spiritual practices. There are times we get together to celebrate sacraments, mark the seasons of the church year, honourmilestones or birthdays with family, or simply celebrate a season. Each time we gather we are
reminded of our identity within the community or family, and we hear the stories again that seem to say, “This is us, this is what we believe, this is our story.” I wonder what community spiritual practices have meaning for you. Perhaps some practices have changed over the years. Maybe you have had to let some go and create the space for something new in its place. However you travel the winding way of your Lenten journey, I hope you find connection with your people in ways that remind you of your story.
Peace and Joy,
Nancy
