Lenten Walk 2

My hope is that we are walking our way into spring. While there is evidence on the trails that the snow is beginning to melt, we have certainly had to dress warm for our first two Sunday afternoon Lenten walks. The forecast for this Sunday is looking a little more promising. Not that the temperature has deterred any of us!

Those of us who enjoy every opportunity to be outside among the trees and beside the river, are certainly a hardy bunch! The season of Lent is a wonderful time to lean into a spiritual practice or two, and that is exactly what I feel we are doing as we accompany one another on the trails and share our stories.

This week our study group conversations have been about what we tend to put off doing for one reason or another. We all had quick answers about putting off certain chores or making certain appointments. The harder conversations came when we thought about our reluctancy to step into the work of repairing broken relationships. There are many reasons why we might put off that important work. Sometimes it’s not the right time because of what is going on in our lives. Sometimes it’s not the right time to listen or to be heard. Sometimes it’s about not accepting a certain reality.

Our scriptures this week encourage us to not put off the work we are meant to do. Perhaps discerning that work is part of our Lenten journey. As we walk the trails this season, may we be attentive to the twists and turns in the road ahead, calling us to keep moving, to be open to change, to expand our thinking, or to embrace a new perspective. No matter what spiritual practice you take on at this time, I hope your reflections help you discern the work that lies before you.

Peace and joy,
Nancy
