Tapestry Stories

We just have three weeks left with our summer theme, so I’m wondering how you have been enjoying our Tapestry of Stories so far. For me, this has been the perfect theme to guide our weaving together of biblical and personal stories, and to give us a glimpse into our colourful Sunnybrook identity. I am grateful for those who have shared personal stories so far that we might learn more about one another. I look forward to seeing our colourful weaving come together by the end of the summer.

Recently, I purchased this woven placemat from my cousin, Laura, who lives in Nelson, B.C. Since her retirement, she has been able to return to her loom and produce beautiful pieces like this. The proceeds from this work go to her local Grandmothers to Grandmothers group to support programs run by grandmothers in Africa. Each time I look at this weaving I think about my own family tapestry of stories. The sharing of family stories was such an important part of our recent gathering to remember my mum. Storytelling will be prominent again when some of us meet next week to remember Laura’s dad, who also just passed away.

This has indeed been a summer of storytelling, remembering, and caring for one another. We all have our own unique gifts to bring into the world and isn’t that a wonderful thing. I invite you to think about the ways you show up in the world, and to celebrate what makes you unique. We are a colourful bunch, and for that I am grateful.
