Shaping Community

There is something very enticing about brand new sticks of colourful playdough, even when you are not sure what shape
your ideas will take. Perhaps you have to dig deep into the memory banks to remember an experience with fresh play dough on the first day of school. When I see this picture I recall the excitement of new beginnings with endless possibilities.

This Sunday is Rally Sunday, and I invite us into this new beginning moment to celebrate our connections together and to imagine the possibilities that lie before us. The theme for our all-ages worship with communion is all about shaping community. The familiar reading from Jeremiah about the potter and the clay gives us the image of God’s presence in this faithful community, helping us shape our life and work together.

The beauty of the clay image for community is that we can imagine shaping and reshaping our identity as we grow and change. Individuals come and go with the brilliant colours of their gifts, changing how we show up and the dynamics of the work we do. We are called, inspired, shaped, and reshaped as the spirit moves within and among us.

I hope you take this new beginning time to imagine the possibilities of how you might share your gifts and passions as we reshape our community for the coming year. Come and share some possibilities for worship, study groups, outreach, and so much more. Don’t forget to bring your potluck finger food to share after the service. Let’s celebrate and give thanks for the weave ofgrace that gives this community shape and purpose.

Peace and joy,

Nancy
