Good Friday to
Easter Morning
Our ecumenical walk through Holy Week has been a rich and interesting experience for many. Upon the common ground of our scriptures from the lectionary, we have participated in a variety of liturgies and reflections, each representing the language and tone of our different denominations.
On Tuesday I ended my reflection with the statement that ultimately our journey to the cross points us toward living in the light. Contemplating the events from scripture leading up to Good Friday is not an easy road to take. That’s why it’s important for us to remember the whole story by catching glimpses of the Easter morning sunrise in the language of the text. Living in the light happens with a full understanding of who Jesus was and what his mission was all about. When our actions, all that we do, come out of that full understanding, then we are living in the light.
This year, Easter Sunday arrives two days before Earth Day. How appropriate that our theology and our lived experience in the natural world comes together in a significant message about living in the light. Understanding this story points us toward nurturing right relations with everyone, with holy mystery, and with the earth. That reminds me of an Easter Gloria I wrote many years ago.
I wish for you a wonderful Easter season filled with both light and mystery. May this be a time of renewal and awakening to the ways of living in the light.
Peace and joy,
Nancy
