Leap of Faith

I pass these signs everyday on my way to the church. The moose and the deer catch my attention every time. I am reminded of who our neighbours are in this beautiful city. Co-existing with the wildlife is not always an easy endeavor, and sometimes it requires alarge leap of faith for these animals to get from one side of road to the other. Thankfully, most Red Deerians keep a watchful eye through this particular stretch of road.

This week our study group conversations have been about those times that have required us to take a leap of faith. We recalled the times we said yes to something, not really knowing where that would lead us, or how we would navigate the crossing from point A to point B and beyond. We discovered there are many times in our lives that require us to take a leap of faith. Some of those leaps are more significant to the grand scheme of things than others. The significant ones are usually about relationships, jobs, moves, or travel.

The scriptures this week encourage our continued exploration of call and discipleship. We hear the story of Jesus tapping those fishermen on the shoulder with the invitation to leave everything behind and follow him. What an incredible leap of faith that would have required. And indeed, they took the leap, not knowing where their yes would lead them, how their lives would change, or the inherent dangers that would follow.

As we discover our gifts, enter into relationships with others, stand up for what we believe in, care for our neighbours (2 or 4 legged), we will inevitably be required to take a leap of faith. No matter what we say yes to, we will learn lessons along the way that will teach us about ourselves and the mystery of divine wisdom. May you be attentive to those subtle and significant invitations to claim our gifts and explore another road.

Peace and joy,

Nancy
