Song of Love
Coming from a musical family, it’s not difficult for me to connect the dots from music, to family ties, to the work of the Spirit, to eternal love. At this time of year, there are certain songs or orchestral works that trigger memories of past concerts sung, played, or even just appreciated from the audience. Those memories certainly tug at the heart strings as we make our hurried way through Advent.
We are drawing close now to the ancient divine love story at the heart of Christmas – God’s song of love for all of humanity. This Sunday we will hear Mary’s Song that is not only an expression of joy, but it also boldly sings of a social gospel that is meant to turn the world upside down. Through it all is the familiar melody line of God’s covenant and connection with the people . . . all the people . . . past, present, and future. It’s a song of love that connects the dots of earthly and divine, and of family ties through faith. It’s just like the delightful Christmas music that brings us comfort and joy as our own heartbeats fall in sync with the rhythm of the words.
As I think back over the year that has been, the programs and worship services we have shared, my heart is full of gratitude for this faith family. I am grateful for the privilege of walking along side you on this journey we share together, and I look forward to whatever comes our way in the new year. If I don’t see you Christmas Eve (and even if I do), I wish you all a peaceful Christmas and a safe and happy transition into the new year.
Peace and joy,
Nancy
