Loved, Gifted,
Called
Most Sundays, when we Pass the Peace, I remind everyone that they are loved, gifted, and called. I think this is such an
important message for all of us to hear, that it bears repeating each week until we actually dare to believe it. Yes, even you
– loved just as you are, no exceptions. When you believe that about yourself, you can believe that about everyone you meet,
and the circle expands. As sacred beings we are called into community to share our passions and abilities, as we are able, and to receive the gifts of others. The give and take will vary according to what is going on in our lives. Sometimes we need to lean on others, and sometimes others need to lean on us.
This week’s gospel story is about Jesus sending out his disciples to carry on his ministry. He empowered them to go and proclaim the good news that God’s realm is close by, and to continuehis work of healing and teaching. They were first loved by Jesus, taught how to care for one another, and then sent out to share those gifts with those they would meet along the way. Love, gifted, called.
I wonder what that looks like for us today. I think our interpretation of the call of the disciples, is found in the more contemporary language of our creeds and faith statements, and without a doubt, in the language of our very own mission statement. “Living our faith we walk humbly with God, caring for all with love and compassion, and pursuing justice.” It’s up to us to live into our mission with all that we do.
Peace and joy,
Nancy
