Colouring
Outside the
Lines
Children everywhere (well, at least in Alberta) are filling their old, new, or used backpacks with all the essentials for another school year. Don’t you remember how inviting that fresh new pack of coloured pencils was— and how you couldn’t wait to sharpen them up? There still seems to be such potential all packaged up in their bright colours.
Our “The Spirit of the Journey” theme is quickly coming to a close, along with the fading summer season. I hope you have enjoyed this opportunity to reflect on your own comings and goings— trips that were planned and some that were spontaneous, things you have learned and stories that let you escape into your imagination.
I never feel as though I’m ready to let summer go. I would be quite happy just to linger here a while longer. Life has a habit of carrying on whether we are ready or not, and so we must prepare for the next journey down the road, whatever that may be. When you think about it, it is rather exciting to consider the potential that lies waiting in the next unwritten chapter. It’s up to us to pick up those pencils and add a splash of colour here and there to make life interesting.
Sometimes we have to colour within the boundaries of our responsibilities and commitments to others, and that is all good work to do. But I hope you also find opportunities, every now and then, to colour outside the lines, and go places you’ve never been before. Thanks for the privilege of being your traveling companion. Happy trails.
Peace and joy,
Nancy
