Eye on the
Sky

There is something about watching a thunderstorm form that causes me to be both excited and fearful at the same time. I feel drawn by the energy that is created as cold air and warm air meet at different levels of the atmosphere. Its so interesting to watch, as surface moisture rises before our very eyes, darkening the clouds and shedding an ominous light on the neighbourhood. There is something about a thunderstorm that reminds us there are things beyond our control.

On this weeks journey, storm clouds brewing like this have been a common sight. We have had to keep an eye on the sky for the next system about to come our way. Sometimes the winds shift from one direction to another making it difficult to figure out where the storm is headed. Even the weather apps we carry around on our phones can be fooled sometimes. Each summer there is more urgency in keeping an eye on the sky, as the warming of our planet increases the severity of these
weather events.

Perhaps the mystery of what will happen next is part of the intrigue of a summer storm. We are, in a way, experiencing life in the balance. The potential for life and death looms heavy before us, and the laws of nature hold all the cards. Part of the mystery is the realization that we cannot control the outcome.

Standing in awe before the storm clouds helps us realize we are all part of this holy mystery. When we believe in a holy mystery that is both within and beyond us, we are accepting the idea that there are things we cannot explain and things beyond our control. So, keep an eye on the sky and pay attention to those storm cloud moments that heighten our awareness of life held in the balance.

Peace and joy,
