Earth Hour
Saturday at 8:30-9:30 p.m.
I hope you will join Allan and me on Saturday evening as we turn off our lights for one hour from 8:30 to 9:30. Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007, as a way of raising awareness of our energyconsumption and the challenges facing our planet.
Now, over 190 countries join in on the last Saturday in March at 8:30 p.m. local time. It is hoped that actions like this will not only increase awareness, but also be a catalyst for change.
In the busyness of our days and weeks, it is so easy for us to become removed from the natural world. For significant change to happen we have to remember how all things are connected. We have to take our children outside and give them the chance to fall in love with creation. When we nurture our relationship within the natural world, our steps forward will become clear.
I recently had the privilege of sharing this beautiful sunrise over a frozen lake with our grandchildren. As we were taking this in, one of my daily reflections popped up on my phone. It was a quote from a book by Diana Butler Bass – “the sky begins at our feet. Thus, we actually live in the heavens now, in the space in which earth and sky meet. God’s ‘heavenly’ presence is the air we breathe.”
Peace and joy,
Nancy
