Written
on our hearts
It is not my usual practice to pull biblical references out of context to apply to particular circumstances... but today I have had these words from the Book of Jeremiah on my mind, and yes, in my heart.
“I will put my law within them,
and I will write it on their hearts;
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.”
This week our province began repealing pandemic protocols swiftly and without much regard for the current reality in our hospitals, care homes, and schools. Many people I have spoken to are concerned about how we are to continue caring for one another, especially the most vulnerable among us, with restrictions lifted.
So these are my words of assurance to you. We are a caring faith community, and as such, we will act according to the law written on our hearts. We have worked our way through this pandemic within the guidelines laid out for us, but also trusting in our judgement of what is best for our community. We will continue listening to our heads and our hearts as restrictions ease. We will also remain mindful of our local situation here in Red Deer. We encourage you to listen to your own heart as you decide when it is best for you to step back into the full life and work of Sunnybrook United, and we will support you in your choices.
Let’s trust in God’s law written on our hearts to guide us as we continue to care for each other this day and in the days to come.
Peace and joy,
Nancy
