Good News of
Great Joy
The news we are accustomed to hearing all around us these days is far from being good or great. Sometimes there is an anxiousness I feel when we turn on the evening news, anticipating reports of more unrest, wider spread of the virus, crazy storms, and melting glaciers. As unsettling as it all can be, I still feel the need to be in the loop and so we watch, and we wait, ever hopeful there will be some good news that will help to turn things around.
Perhaps things were not so different for Mary and Joseph in our Christmas story. The news around them would not have been any better than ours is today, and yet the world still made room for the Christ Child to be born. “God’s love becomes flesh and dwells among the people,” in the most humble way you can imagine. Now that is certainly good news of great joy!
If we open our hearts to this story, the Holy One will find a way to show up even in our darkest places.
I wish you all a very merry Christmas this year, however you are able to celebrate the season. May there always be room in your heart for the hope, peace, joy, and love that is waiting for us this Christmas. Let’s imagine how we might be the good news we all long to hear.
Peace and joy,
Nancy
