First Third Ministry

Hello, and welcome!

This page is dedicated to young people and young families in Red Deer that value an open, inclusive, and progressive way of being. Regardless of where you are in your spiritual life, our hope is that you feel welcome to join this community and journey with us. Our First Third Minister, Aleesha, is engaging with folks to determine what the greatest needs of young people are right now, what really matters to them, and what it means to be a church in our world today.

We are carefully considering what programs and events will help build bridges in our community, provide support and care, and give those who come a sense of safety and belonging. Please reach out to share your voice and help us shape what this ministry will become.

Mamas' Circle

For moms and their kiddos

Join us Tuesday mornings from 10am-12pm in the playroom downstairs for coffee, tea, and snacks as we make space to talk about what's going well, what's been hard, and what's hopeful. This is a space where mamas can spend time in community, supporting and learning from one another. We will also plan to have some weeks for doing freezer meals together, crafts, and other activities that the group would like to see happen.

Kids Church

Every Sunday Morning

Each Sunday, children will spend some time in the sanctuary, with space to play quietly at the front, and then go downstairs during the passing of the peace. The kids will participate in Godly Play stories, community crafts, offering their own prayers, and more. Once a month, Nancy and Aleesha will plan an intergenerational service to engage the congregation in interactive elements that all ages, stages, and walks of life will enjoy.

Campus United @ Red Deer Polytechnic

For a second year, Campus United will be connecting with students at RDP to provide a free space for friendship, food, and fun. If you're a student at RDP and curious about connecting with what we're doing, please contact Aleesha by emailing firstthirdministry@sunnybrookunited.org or texting 587-402-2192 for more information.

Holding Space Newsletter

2-3 times a month, I post a newsletter about the beautiful messiness in the cycles of life, progressive spirituality, raising children, and finding belonging. Rather than be prescriptive around matter of life and faith, I seek to hold space for the uncertainty and nuance that we all experience.
