We tell the story of Jesus' last week, not because it is pretty, or because we like hearing it. It is not pretty and it is very hard to hear. We tell it because it is real, because this is the way life is for many. Not everybody wins. Some people, even most people, lose. And eventually, we all lose. We all die. We tell this story because we believe God wants us to tell it, because when God came into the world, he came not as a winner, but as one who refused to play by the rules that make winners and losers. The story of Jesus is the story of one who had the power to do whatever he wanted. He could have been whatever he wanted to be, but what he wanted was to make life better for everyone.
