Camping Sunday

Mmm, I want to linger,
Mmm, a little longer,
Mmm, a little longer here with you.

I wonder what your favourite camp song memories are. This Sunday is Camping Sunday so don’t forget you are welcome
to wear your blue jeans, or any other casual wear you like. Brad and I will be including some of our favourite camp songs and Jim Watson will bring some more stories from Kasota East Camp on Sylvan Lake. I know that many of you have fond memories of camping experiences there.

Growing up mostly in Grande Prairie, Alberta, my church camp experiences were at Camp Tamarack, close to the Wapiti River. I also attended other CGITA camps at Camp Wohelo on Pigeon Lake. I have lots of great memories about morning watch, relay challenges, camp food, and of course, singing around the campfire in the evenings.

As I think back on these experiences as a teenager, I remember how transformative camping can be. For a short time, you and your fellow campers create a community together where everyone is expected to be there for each other, and problem solve together. Even those who are apprehensive at first, usually don’t want to leave by the end of the camp. Sometimes, camping is a first experience away from home for kids, which offers them a chance to grow in confidence in a
safe and fun environment.

Camping in Alberta is still alive and well. I hope you get a chance to check out what is available to campers of all ages this summer. Sunnybrook has a great connection with Kasota East Camp. Many thanks to all those who continue to support this camp by going to Cow Patti Dinner Theatre shows and purchasing plants for the summer. You are helping the next generation of campers learn and grow.

Peace and joy,
Nancy
